Update: SilverSHielD v6.1.7.137

We have just released SilverSHielD version 6.1.7.137.

This new version features a greatly improved CLI (command-line interface) and several stability-related fixes to cope better with parallel password-harvesting attacks.

Warning: if you’re upgrading from a version prior to 6.1.5.135, installing this new version may lead to loss/invalidation of your license. So if you are a licensed customer, please, contact Extenua before applying this update/upgrade. Thank you.

Sticky: Always check before you update…

If you’re still running an old version of SilverSHielD (older than 5.5) please always contact Extenua before performing the update/upgrade.

In fact, the v6.x installer is guaranteed to automatically import your configuration, settings, and users when upgrading from v5.5, but may not be able to import from older formats.

An upgrade from version 4 or early 5 can be performed via an intermediate upgrade to version 5.5. Upgrade from older versions (developed by K2SXS before the acquisition by Extenua) may not be possible. So, please, contact us if you’re facing these scenarios.

Upgrading from v5.5 or older to the latest version 6.x, instead, is totally automatic and can be performed right away, no need to contact us in this case.

Update: SilverSHielD v6.1.6.136

We have just released SilverSHielD version 6.1.6.136, which comes with a long-awaited and important improvement: the ability to tarpit client IP addresses during the authentication-request phase, and not only during the actual authentication phase.

As many of you know, in fact, the SSH (and therefore the SFTP) protocol requires the client to “requests authentication” first, and only if allowed the client can then perform the actual authentication. This could lead to bots trying to harvest usernames (although it wouldn’t be impossible to harvest their password). This new release totally prevents this kind of behavior.

Warning: if you’re upgrading from a version prior to 6.1.5.135, installing this new version may lead to loss/invalidation of your license. So if you are a licensed customer, please, contact Extenua before applying this update/upgrade. Thank you.

Update: SilverSHielD v6.1.5.135

This maintenance update fixes an annoying bug that affected only the 64-bit version of SilverSHielD and prevented the correct traversal of multi-level empty directory structures.

Even though this wasn’t a common issue, some of our customers needed such (empty) structures for unattended file transfer operations performed by clients they have no control on.

Also, the hardware identification algorithm (Hardware-ID) has been slightly modified to better address non-western character sets. So be careful: this update may invalidate your license, please contact Extenua if you’re planning on installing this update. Thank you.

Update: SilverSHielD v6.1.4.134

We are happy to announce that a new version of SilverSHielD is available. The only significant change in this version is the ability to add entire networks and subnets (in the form 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0) to the Tarpit.
